UKRAINE CHAIN

ABOUT UKRAINE CHAIN

Up to now, most refugees from Ukraine have left via Poland. But Poland is becoming clogged up with the enormous numbers, and increasingly, people are turning south and leaving via Romania. In the first week of April, the daily numbers crossing the border at the main northern entry point near Suceava was 3000, and this is expected to increase.
We have worked in that part of Romania since 1990, and on the basis of our experience and contacts, we are setting out to create links between what state and other aid organisations offer, to create a chain which starts in war-torn Ukraine, and ends in a safe, medium-term home.

BACAU, N.E. ROMANIA

This will be is our base, strategically positioned with an airport with flights to Luton and on the express rail line to Budapest. We are renting a flat as a base for refugees who are exhausted and need respite after their journey. Our local partner NGO, Associatiei Sprijin pentru Parinti will manage the flate and provide therapy to traumatised travellers.

There are various aid agencies and facilities at the border, including this parent and child facility. Our job is to connect them into a co ordinated chain with support along the way.
