#Ukraine 🙏🙏🙏 part 1 -

11th March 2022

ï»ż

Hello Everyone,

I know all of you . Some are old old friends, some work colleagues and some relatively new acquaintancesï»ż. I know that all of you belong to networks. Some of you may even believe in the salvation of the group but this request is not about salvation. It is about our responsibility to each other. It is a moment when I ask each one of you to join with me to be a ‘force for good’ on our own and within the wider society we belong to.

A combination of three things have persuaded me that this general request to pray or meditate or just to be quiet is one that I am called to make.

1. My husband Rev James has led our small congregation in Woodley Airfield in daily prayer for a few minutes daily since the beginning of the lockdown in March 2020. It has been a powerful experience in hope.

2. My own family have many received stories of refugees - not one of our extended family ended up in a gas chamber but the stories still send shivers down my back.

3. My brother has just put together the attached website for anyone who can offer a spare room to refugees - it has produced a universal response.

https://www.nationalfundingscheme.org/ukraine/

Below is an opportunity for us all to take one minute a day to make a difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and the email below sent on by another member of our family.

With love and best wishes

🙏🙏🙏

ï»żDuring World War II, an adviser to Prime Minister Winston Churchill organized a group of people to stop whatever they were doing at a certain time each night to work in the community for the peace, safety and security of the (resident) people in England to pray.

They did this every day and it was as if the city stood still, such was the power of prayer.

The result was so overwhelming that the bombing was stopped after a short time!

Now we are organizing again, a group of people of different nationalities, to spend a minute praying for the security of our countries, for an end to the problems that oppress and suppress us, and for God to guide the decisions of our rulers.

We will meet at the following times:

Germany 4 p.m

Austria 4 p.m

Spain 4:00 p.m

Portugal 3:00 p.m

Canary Islands 3:00 p.m

Costa Rica 8 p.m

Colombia 7:00 p.m

Nicaragua 8:00 p.m

Ecuador 7:00 p.m

Guatemala 8:00 p.m

Mexico 8 p.m

Panama 7 p.m

Honduras 6 p.m

El Salvador 8:00 p.m

Venezuela 6 p.m

Uruguay 5 p.m

Paraguay 5 p.m

Brazil 6 p.m

Argentina 5 p.m

Chile 5 p.m

Italy 4 p.m

Ireland 8 p.m

UK. 8 pm

India 9 p.m.

Please support us in this initiative. We will pause for a minute each day at the appointed time to pray for world peace, for an end to conflict and for the restoration of tranquility to all people on the earth, and for families to look to God for their safety and to see their salvation. If we understood the tremendous power of prayer, we would be amazed. If you can forward this request to your contacts, we can work a miracle with our prayer. Set the alarm on your phone every day at the time set for your country and pray for one minute for peace “ 🙏🙏🙏.

Subject: One minute for Prayer 🙏🙏🙏 - please read and please forward

Thank you all for your warm encouraging responses to 'One minute for prayer please'

I mentioned in my first email that my brother had set up a website for anyone wanting to offer accommodation to Ukrainians coming to this country.

Here is his first update and he should be on the BBC1 news this evening

Monday 14th March at 6pm and 10pm.

"Thank you to everyone that has signed up to UKrainian Homestay. The site has had a fantastic response with 100s signing up each day offering their homes and rooms to support those fleeing the war in Ukraine.........

Building this database is crucial to ensuring we can provide homestays across the country. With that in mind and if you have not done so already, please do post out the existence of the site across your social media, WhatsApp and other social media (Instagram/Twitter/Facebook etc.) channels. Below are some words you may wish to use.

WhatsApp/Email/Social channels

I have signed up to Ukrainian Homestay, a volunteer effort to build a database of UK homes willing to provide beds and rooms to those fleeing Ukraine. You too can do so at www.nationalfundingscheme.org/ukraine . Please pass on this link via WhatsApp/text/social channels or email.

Here are an assortment of your lovely messages in no particular order - apologies to any I missed. I could not put all of them. I take comfort from the one that suggested 2minutes on any subsequent nights if one forgot ....

*********

Thank you . Will pray xx

Thank you for including me on your list. I'm afraid I can't guarantee to be on the dot every day, but if for whatever reason (including advancing age and loss of memory!) I'll make a point of praying for twice as long the next day. It's a truly worthwhile enterprise which, among other features brings us face-to-face with our own inadequacies.

*****

I have forwarded it so that the Methodist Circuit and Caversham Churches Together are aware of this important initiative.

*****

I have passed this on - and did know about it already but good to be encouraged again

Love and blessings

Thank you for this.I have a particular connection with the tragedy of what is happening in Ukraine on account of having worked there intermittently since 2015. My personal and professional contacts (including at one person likely to be on Putin’s “kill list”) have proved incredibly strong and positive about the future - though in many cases the present is unimaginably traumatic - if not for them then for friends and family.

#Ukraine 🙏🙏🙏 part 2

Hello Everyone,

I was sent the extract from the Henley Standard this week which contains a round up of all that the residents of Henley on Thames and surrounding villages are doing vis a vis supporting Ukraine - IMPRESSIVE.

Perhaps less salutary was the following quoted by 'Mrs Mather"

It just goes to show that sounding off with a friendly reporter for the HS is not wise unless one wants it to end up in print.

Villagers have now formed a “coalition” with residents of Gallowstree Common to support housing Ukrainian refugees.

About 30 households have signed up to the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme but are unable to take anyone yet as the first phase is only for people with a name of a Ukrainian or family in need.

Mrs Mather said: “We’re just whistling into the wind at the moment as we need to be able to name people.

“I’ve cleared a spare room but I think it will take weeks.

“We’ve started a community group and it’s all coming together to provide things such as a taxi service and other services.

“The battle now is to tell the village groups to keep smiling and keep pushing and not to get disheartened.

“I have written to Henley MP John Howell more than once and I think the Government needs a kick up the backside.”

But I stand by the quote even if less than lady like and am well relieved that Lt General Richard Nugee although considerably more diplomatic and eloquent does not disagree. If you have 45mins to spare with a nice cup of tea the following podcast via Twitter is worth listening to. See link below

All love

Jane
